Koh Bon Divespot Andaman Sea Further up north, even more exciting dive sites await the adventurous diver:

Koh Bon is an island just a few miles north off the Similans. Manta rays are often seen here between November and May.

Koh Tachai is the second island to be found on the way from Similan to Richelieu Rock. Apart from pristine white sandy beaches and great snorkelling sites, the island offers some of the best diving in this area.

The Surin Islands are a national park hosting some of the last remaining sea gypsies of Southeast Asia. Scientists state that the Surin islands posess the biggest variety of coral in all of Thailand.

Richelieu Rock gained fame as the ultimate spot for whale shark diving in the Andaman Sea. Between January and April, the chances to meet whale sharks are higher than anywhere else in Southeast Asia.

Diving the Similan Islands and beyond

The Similan islands are a string of nine small tropical islands bundled together to create a breathtaking underwater heaven. No dive magazine, that would not feature these outstanding reefs on a regular basis. The underwater architecture consists of huge boulders, creating exciting swimthroughs and caves. No wonder, the Similan islands are officially accounted for as one of the top ten dive sites in the world.

The most popular Similan dive sites are: Christmas Point, Fantasea Reef, Elephant Head, Deep Six, Shark Fin Reef and East of Eden.

Christmas Point and Elephant Head feature mazes of huge granite boulders lying on top of each other, creating exciting swimthroughs and small caves. Here you can see giant moray eels, lionfish, groupers, rays and white tip sharks. Soft and stone coral, mixed with sea fans add color to these impressive stone gardens.

Fantasea Reef is split into two areas, from which the western half is the more exciting but also more challenging one. A huge granite rock forms a wall here, where currents can get quite strong. A good spot to see reef sharks and large pelagics.

Deep Six impresses with a stunning scenery that permanently changes as the dive continues: From wide hard coral fields over soft coral gardens to gigantic boulders in the deeper area - everything that Similan has to offer can be found here.

Shark Fin Reef is a completely submerged area with granite canyons and huge fan corals in between. Here you can find harmless bottom-dwelling leopard sharks and blue spotted stingrays.

East of Eden is like a walk in a park. The dive site impresses with an abundance of soft corals, sponges and makro life. Although very easy to dive, this dive site will satisfy beginners and advanced divers equally.
